You aren't a true lifter if you don't want to build both muscle AND get stronger. After all, who doesn't want to be able to lift some heavy shit AND also look good?

The problem is that in our highly specialized world where everyone must fit into one neat category, most programs only cater to one goal. On one hand you have solid powerlifting programs designed to increase your bench, squat and deadlift. But without the requisite volume necessary to really pack on size, you become stronger but you don't look stronger.

On the other side of the spectrum you have the bodybuilding bros who have more muscle than these powerlifters but struggle to bench press 225lb for reps or squat 315lb to depth. If muscle is beneficial to getting stronger, why aren't these high volume bodybuilding bros getting A LOT stronger?

The answer is programming.

Despite what you might have read online, programming is far more nuanced than you might think. Why do you think some people consistently excel at their training yet others languish and make next to no progress? There are many reasons but a major one would be programming. 3x10 will only get you so far in life.

Now I'm sure you've also seen online a lot of programs claiming to be able to do both at once. These are often labelled powerbuilding programs. But these programs are basically glorified powerlifting programs with a little extra volume. How is doing a few sets of curl after bench going to dramatically change your physique?

It won't.

What you need is the periodization of a powerlifting program with a lot of the training principles of a bodybuilding program. You see, we've done something different. On some days you will train like a powerlifter and other days you will train like a bodybuilder. Tackling two goals in the same phase of training but on different days.

To get stronger, you need to be intelligent with your lifting. Hence our rock solid periodization. For bodybuilding, you need the right frequency, volume, exercise selection and diversity of training to consistently push your muscles to grow.
